Mehdi Berbich spent a large part of his career with U.S. financial institution JP Morgan Chase & Co., where he served as Executive Director in its investment banking division in New York until May 2009.  Mr. Berbich began his career with the Chase Manhattan Bank in 1998, where he worked on complex actuarial and financial modeling assignments (in the life and non-life insurance sectors) and led numerous fund raising projects, bank syndications and large structured finance assignments.  After Chase’s merger with JPMorgan, he specialized primarily in Mergers & Acquisitions and corporate finance coverage of major financial institutions in North America (including some of the world’s largest institutional investors across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia), serving as Associate, Vice President then Executive Director within JPMorgan’s New York FIG group.

During his tenure at JPMorgan, Mr. Berbich was involved in the execution of over USD 30 billion in transaction volume across all areas of corporate finance and capital markets: Mergers & acquisitions, debt and equity origination, hybrid products, leveraged finance (LBOs), structured products, financial restructurings, rating advisory and risk management.  His current industry experience spans across a broad range of sectors including industrials, retail, distribution, agribusiness and financial institutions, where Mr. Berbich advised on an extensive number of assignments in the fields of life and property & casualty insurance/reinsurance, insurance brokerage and services, asset management, specialty finance and financial technology.

In 2007, Mr. Berbich pursued a rotation in JPMorgan’s London offices in an effort to enhance the coverage of the bank’s transatlantic FIG clients as well as the partnership with the European FIG investment banking team. The same year, he was elected “FIG Vice President of the Year” within JPMorgan New York for his business leadership across three continents.

Thereafter, Mehdi Berbich co-founded Ascent Capital Partners, an independent investment bank based in Casablanca, to focus on strategic and financial advisory for a broad range of Africa-based clients. Since, he has advised on a number of M&A, private placement, restructuring and financial advisory assignments for several Moroccan, European, North American and Middle Eastern clients.

Mr. Berbich holds a Master’s of Science in Engineering Management from Tufts University (Boston) and a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering from Boston University.  He currently serves on the Board of several companies in the industrial, real estate and agribusiness sectors in Morocco.
